And when you learn to pivot with passion, your world expands. Explodes with opportunities. Go grab your favorite beverage and let's shake things up as we explore how to pivot with passion.
Hello, my friend. Thanks for having me back in your ears this week.
I want to pause before we go any further, because we need to celebrate. Oh, oh yeah. Aha. I did it. What did I do? Four weeks in a row. This being week five. I posted a podcast episode. What. My friend that is huge. Huge. Because I will tell you one of the top. Thoughts? I had. Before. I jumped head first into this podcast was.
How am I going to keep up? With content every single week. I probably lost some sleep over that thought. Especially after the second episode.
Because the first. I was explanation. The second was a retelling of a story. But then suddenly hit me. Oh, my gosh. I have. The third episode M beyond. That I have to get through. But. Here I am.
Week five.
Massive. Celebration on this end.
I also. I want to celebrate you.
And here's why. I know adulting. It's difficult. The struggle is real. My friend. So I am celebrating you for numerous reasons. One. For pushing play. There's a hundred million gazillion other things. You could be doing right now and you're choosing to listen to me. So, thank you.
second, you're also taking this time for yourself.
Which I think is just so freaking cool of you. You deserve. A moment. To tune out the rest of the world. And sink in. And gain some new perspective or reflect.
So huge. Congratulations to you.
I do have a set of. Clappers. A little plastic hands that. When you shake left to right. We'll clap against themselves, but here's the funny thing. I can't use them with this microphone because this microphone. Tunes them out. And I suppose I could find. An audio clip. Of one's being played an insert, but my friend. Here's a little sneak peak into today's episode. I'm lowering the bar. So you will not hear clapping hands in the background, but just know. That my hands are clapping. For you.
Now I'm curious how often you find yourself in that same situation. Not that you're looking for a clip of someone clapping, but.
When you're thinking you want to do something.
And then just the thought. Of doing that thing. You begin to realize how much effort it's going to take to make that thing happen. And you start obsessing over.
The to do list.
Or the steps needed. To bring that thing to life and it eventually becomes, so big in your mind that it is overwhelming. And it paralyzes you from taking any action. To move forward.
this episode, I'm really focused on the concept. Of lowering the bar.
this was something I told myself over and over and over again, when I was. envisioning this podcast.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to attend an open house for a local. Podcasting company.
I didn't know anybody. I went by myself.
And.
While I was there meeting. Some podcast personalities. And. Employees of this company.
I joined a group and took a tour of the facility. Now the facility had just been redone. Hence they were having an open house to show it off.
They took me inside of numerous podcast rooms that you could rent. And they were showing all of the soundproofing they had done and that the chairs were comfortable in. The mikes were just right. And even the air conditioning units, you could turn off. So you wouldn't get. A hint. Of airflow. While you were recording, then they showed you the glass walls and that, oh, over there you could see your producer.
By the end of my tour.
And this was months before I had launched.
If I had allowed. Myself to think about it too much. I would have decided I could not start a podcast because I didn't have.
The connections, the funds. The time that it appeared I needed. Because who doesn't need.
The ability to turn off the air flow in air ducks and
Have patted materials on every wall and have comfy chairs and just the right mic.
I would have never started this podcast. If that was the bar, I was setting the standards at. Because right off the bat, I could have never accomplished that.
It's time for a clarity cocktail.
I've heard from so many people, how much. They love this segment of the show. Whew. So. In keeping with today's theme. I lowered the bar when I started this segment called clarity cocktail. Because I knew from the beginning, there was no way I could sustain. Picking a new cocktail. For a weekly episode.
But I did promise to share one when I found. One that I adored.
And that is today. My friend. So this past Friday evening, I was sitting on a patio with some girlfriends. During what will be the last I'm sure. 70 degree day until June of 2024 here in Cleveland. And one of the seasonal cocktails they had on the menu was an Aperol cider spritz. Now. I know there's a huge bandwagon right now for Aperol spritzes, et cetera. But. This one,
Folded in a beautiful nod to fall. And that was with apple cider. So. Going out on a limb. I said, I try one. by the end of the night I had to, , they were that good. yes, the recipe will be in the show notes. I even posted about. This on Instagram. So if you're curious to look at a picture. Of what it was that I had hop over there.
although I did just share a cocktail recipe, the clarity cocktail is really more of personal introspection or insight. And so I wanted to share with you one of. My business mentors, Brendan Bouchard.
Had this phrase. That really made me. Pause.
he said, when you knock on the door of opportunity, Work. Answers.
I'm going to say that again. When you knock on the door of opportunity. Work. Answers.
And I love this because it's so compliments what I've been talking about. Lowering the bar. Right.
As an example, when I started this podcast. I lowered the bar to make sure. I could take that first step. In making it a reality. I was under no delusions that. There wasn't going to be work involved.
And I think it's important to note that. I was knocking. Aye. Raise my hand. Stood up, walked to the door and said, I want to start a podcast. well, you better believe work. Answered.
So I want you to keep that in mind. make no mistake whenever. We choose to start something new or try something different.
Or explore.
Another opportunity. Work. I will always show up. And answer.
And now, back to the episode. Cheers.
let's dive back into this idea of lowering the bar.
what have you thought of starting.
And eventually convince yourself.
It's better just staying an idea than taking action.
Afterwards, you may find yourself feeling stuck. Or frustrated or exhausted. While you're trying to figure out if that was the right thing to do.
But what if you lowered the bar? let me pause for a minute and remind you. You're an adult. And adulting. Can be difficult at times.
But here is the amazing.
Truth.
At too often. I think we forget.
You know, who makes the rules?
You you make the rules.
Outside of paying taxes, obeying the law and do no harm to others. Your pretty much in control. Of everything.
Although this episode is all about. Lowering the bar. Let me clarify.
One thing. I want you to lower the bar. But not your expectations. Ooh. Let that sink in for one minute. I want you to lower the bar, but not your expectations. My expectations were the same. Regardless of which path I chose to take for this podcast. My expectation was I would show up every week. And put out. A podcast. That was my expectation. I let go of any expectation about it's gotta sound just perfect and everything has to line up and. I can't be the one to do the editing. No. And I guarantee. There are mistakes or flubs. And I know. One thing that drives me crazy. I don't know if you've noticed this, but this microphone tends to cut off. SS. I don't know if it just did it, but. The letter S Seems to get cut off and I don't know. Y and you know what. I'm lowering the bar. And if it sounds like I have a slight speech impediment at times. I just know. I'm throwing my microphone under the bus.
Now that we've rounded third base and we're sliding into home on this episode. Here are three things I want you to remember and take with you into next week. First. Lower the bar. Where in your life, can you lower the bar? Again, this is not about lowering your expectations.
I want you to lower the bar so you can take that first step forward. Into whatever it is you're thinking of or dreaming of. Or have been putting off. How can you lower the bar? So you can take one step forward. The second thing is. That regardless. Of how low you lower the bar. And regardless of how big your expectations are. I know this to be true. Work is required. For everything that you want. And when you go knocking. On the door of opportunity. You better believe work will be standing at the ready.
Waiting for you to take the first step.
And third, don't forget to celebrate your wins.
My friend. I cannot. Thank you enough for continuing to come with me on this magical adventure. That is pivot with passion.
I would be thrilled. If you shared this with a friend. Or left a review on apple podcasts. If you can do just one of those things, that would be fantastic.
My expectation is. That my podcast will continue to grow and gain new listeners.
And I'm celebrating myself for showing up. And celebrating you. For coming along.
